Day One
Lucy Cross
Sustainable Botanical
My project has centred around conservation and renewal of various endangered plants and flowers which are native to Britain. I have been exploring this through the medium of sculpture, creating knitted replicas of twelve different endangered British plants. I then took these plants and photographed them in habitats they naturally occur in to emphasise that if we save them from extinction we will be able to see them in more areas of the UK.
Click on the images below to see more information about each plant!
I have extended my work into fundraising as I have curated six knitting kits, the sale profits of which will go to the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. Each of these kits contains wool and materials for creating a knitted brooch version of one of the endangered plants above, as well as the pattern I created for each.
My shop, Sustainable Botanical, can be found on Instagram, Facebook and eBay.
If you're not confident with knitting, my Spiked Rampion kit is for beginners! You only need to know casting on, knitting and purling to be able to make a beautiful brooch. If you don't know what any of those terms mean, check out this playlist!
If you have more time, you might also want to support these organisations!
